Three individuals - two caregivers and a family member - will be receiving education scholarships this year from Companions & Homemakers, Connecticut's leading provider of in-home care and companion services. They are the latest recipients in the company's Annual Caregiver Scholarship Program.

This year's recipients are Astrid Pindo-Vasquez of Waterbury, Jessica Williams of Enfield, and Pamela Duncan of Bloomfield.

The Companions & Homemakers Caregiver Scholarship Program was founded in 2015, and provides scholarships each year to selected caregivers, or a member of a caregiver's family, including children and grandchildren.

Astrid Mariana Pindo-Vasquez attends the University of Connecticut and is studying Allied Health Sciences. She has been working with Companions & Homemakers for four years, and her career goal is to be a doctor. She will be receiving a $4,000 scholarship.

Jessica Williams is the daughter of a caregiver who has been with Companions & Homemakers for 10 years. Jessica is a student at the University of Rhode Island, pursing a degree in Psychology, and she has volunteered at a homeless shelter in Hartford. She will be receiving a $1,000 scholarship towards her education.

In addition, the Companions & Homemakers Scholarship Program will be reimbursing caregiver Pamela Duncan for the cost of the CNA certificate that she is working on this year. Duncan has been with Companions & Homemakers for five years, and looks forward to continuing after earning her CNA.

"We take tremendous pride in our caregivers, and their diligent and caring work with individuals and their families," said Linda Grigerek, founder and president of Companions & Homemakers. "The scholarship program is one way we express our appreciation as they pursue educational opportunities that reflect a special dedication to learning and contributing in meaningful ways to our community."

The scholarship program awards funds that can be used towards tuition, books and related education expenses. Since its inception, eight individuals have received a total of more than $18,000 from the company.

"We are particularly pleased that we are able to match the appropriate caregiver with each unique person we serve, providing the level of service and expertise that each distinct situation requires," said Grigerek. "Our caregivers are the heart of our business, and why we are able to make such a difference in so many lives, each and every day."
