Syracuse, N.Y. -- Syracuse football has put senior tight end Kyle Kleinberg on scholarship, SU Athletics told Syracuse.com on Saturday.

The 6-foot, 237-pound Armonk, N.Y., native has developed into a core special teams player for the Orange, making seven tackles over his career and serving as a member of the kick return unit last fall.

Kleinberg also provides depth to projected starting tight end Ravian Pierce, a senior, and sophomore backup Aaron Hackett.

Kleinberg joined the program in 2015 as a linebacker after earning Big North Conference All-United Division First Team honors as a senior at Don Bosco Preparatory High School in Ramsey, N.J. He switched to tight end before the 2016 season.

The Orange is now using 82 of its 85 available scholarships. However, the program only has one remaining initial counter to use this cycle; the NCAA limits teams to adding 25 recruited, scholarship players each academic year (as opposed to rewarding walk-ons).

So, while unlikely, SU could still bring on another recruited player for this season. If unused, the team would save that spot for next cycle and likely backdate an extra spring enrollee.

Syracuse's Devon Clarke ready to play after overcoming suspension, academic issues Stephen Bailey covers Syracuse football for The Post-Standard/Syracuse.com. You can follow him on Twitter and Facebook. He can also be reached anytime via email.
