
Chennai: B Gayathri (13), a class nine student in the neighbourhood, has scripted a success story.
The resident of Vivekanandapuram First Street, has bagged a scholarship from the Centre for Culture and Resource Training, New Delhi, in Carnatic vocals.
A press release said, Gayathri, who started learning music from the age of six under guru Bharathi Venugopal, competed with hundreds from across the country and was selected for the said scholarship.
Speaking to News Today, Priya Ganesh, her mother said, "Gayathri used to show interest in listening to music when she was hardly two years old. She eventually began identifying singers and ragas."
"At her age of six, we put her under training and so far she has staged around 20 concerts in-and-around the city including at Ayodhya Mandapam in West Mambalam," she added.
She successfully completed the junior examinations in Carnatic vocal conducted by the Karnataka Board and bagged the fifth rank in the course. She had also done voice culture training in three levels from Shankar Mahadevan Online Academic Music, it is informed.
