
Awards for college or college-bound students
The National Merit Scholarship Corp. has announced its latest round of 2,500 winners nationally, who each receive $2,500.
Finalists in each state are judged on a combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state's percentage of the nation's graduating high school seniors.
In Berks County and the Tri-County region there were three recipients:
Sashank Sridhar, Sinking Spring, Wilson High School; probable career field: chemical engineering.
Bryn K. Werley, Wernersville, Conrad Weiser High School; probable career field: science/research.
Nadia N. Mokhallalati, Glenmoore, Owen J. Roberts High School; probable career field: international law.

The Ladies Auxiliary of the Reading Liederkranz has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Rosalie Borst of Berks Catholic High School.

The Berks County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Scholarship Fund has awarded $1,000 to Lily Whitmoyer of Schuylkill Valley High School. She will attend Penn State, main campus, with a double major in photo journalism and human development.
The chapter has also awarded $800 to Van Wirebach of Conrad Weiser High School who will attend the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., majoring in computer science.

Dorothy Klausing Bentley Scholarship Fund of Breast Cancer Support Services has awarded $500 scholarships to Andrew Thomas, Sinking Spring, Wilson High School, attending Columbia University; Wesley Butler, Reading, Reading High School, attending Kutztown University; and Angel Suarez, Sinking Spring, Oley High School, attending Penn State Berks.
