ROCHESTER - Teen girls from Honeoye Falls-Lima and Pavilion high schools were among four recipients of the annual Young Women of Distinction Awards, officials at The Women's Council announced this week.
Lauren Cody of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School Annabelle Carney of Pavilion Central School were among the contestants from an nine-county region. They each received a $2,500 scholarship.
The scholarship program supports the Women's Council's belief that young women with promise today will become tomorrow's leaders.
Modeled after the ATHENA Award, the program is designed to discover high school seniors who have displayed outstanding leadership, academic excellence, and involvement in the Rochester and Finger Lakes areas.
The Women's Council is an affiliate of the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.
Four top recipients, one each from the Rochester City School District, Monroe County east, Monroe County west, and the eight regional counties surrounding Monroe, receive a scholarship. The other winners were Alyssa Libonati of Spencerport High School and Karenna Thomas of Wilson Magnet High School.
Other 2019 Young Women of Distinction Award finalists included Sydney Boone of Avon High School, Abigail Bush of Perry High School and Joelle Provino of Mount Morris High School.
