CANYON, TX (KCBD) - West Texas A&M University sophomore Digital Communication and Media student Katy Zimmerman, of Lubbock, has been awarded a $3000 scholarship by the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation for 2019-2020.

"It means more to me than words can explain," Zimmerman said. "I have worked in this field for more than four years now, and it is amazing to see recognition for all of that."

Zimmerman applied for the scholarship, which is granted to only a few students across Texas each year.

"This recognition motivates me even more to keep going and work harder in this field," Zimmerman said. "I am extremely passionate about media and how powerful it is and the impact it can make for the good of this world."

Zimmerman serves as an officer in WTAMU's National Broadcasting Society chapter and has been engaged in numerous roles across the university, including Rogers LEAD WT and Maroon Productions.

"She has earned a high GPA, but she hasn't stopped in the classroom; she creates, she leads and she serves her community," said Dr. Emily Kinsky, one of the advisers for WTAMU's NBS chapter. "Katy is consistently engaged in learning and improving her craft."

The Texas Association of Broadcasters started the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in 1973 to foster learning in broadcasting, broadcast journalism, management, advertising, broadcast electronics and other arts and techniques of the broadcasting field.
