On Thursday, April 18, the College of the Redwoods Foundation honored generous scholarship donors and congratulated scholarship recipients. This annual scholarship celebration is held for donors to meet their scholarship recipients and for students to thank their benefactors.

CR's Foundation awarded over $120,000 in scholarships during the academic year of 2018-19. More than 250 scholarships were awarded and ranged from $100 to $2,500. Competition was steep as 580 students from across the Redwoods Community College District applied for these scholarships.

Marty Coelho, Executive Director of College Advancement and the CR Foundation, said, "The impact these scholarships have on our students' lives is immeasurable. Many of our students have had to overcome great adversity just to get to college, others still face daily economic hardships, but they all have one thing in common - their desire to do their best and build a brighter future."

Jim Maher, President of the College of the Redwoods Foundation, was thankful for the community's support. "Del Norte and Humboldt County have had a long tradition of supporting CR students. I believe we understand that there is no better investment than supporting CR students - they are after all our neighbors, and they will be our future business owners and employees."

A few of the scholarships awarded include the Codoni Scholarship, Ernest & Mildred Lanini Memorial Scholarship, Louis & Fern Weichselfelder Memorial Scholarship, Mel McLean Scholarship, Rotary Clubs of Eureka and Southwest Eureka Scholarships, Ferndale Garden Club Scholarship, Tim Crossan Memorial Scholarship, Tom & Phyllis Giacomini Scholarship, and CR's newest scholarship for students facing homelessness - the Redwoods Room and Board Scholarship.

College of the Redwoods' Fall 2019 scholarship application will be available online in August. The list of available CR scholarships can be found at www.redwoods.edu/scholarships
