The Kentucky Bourbon Festival recently announced changes to its scholarship program, expanding the offerings from two awards to three awards for the 2019-2020 school year.

The Kentucky Bourbon Festival has awarded children of Kentucky Bourbon distillery employees with scholarships since 2000. The scholarship program will now offer a third non-traditional scholarship which will be available to students with a diagnosed disability as determined by the World Health Organization.

"The world is changing, and we want to make sure we are keeping pace," says Kentucky Bourbon Festival Executive Director Jill Hawkins.

"The Kentucky Bourbon Festival recognizes that just as there are many different professions that contribute to the success of the Bourbon industry, there are many types of students who contribute to the success of our schools and communities. The addition of this scholarship will help recognize students of all abilities, and award their irreplaceable contributions to our communities and beyond."

When signed by Governor Paul Patton in early 2000, the official scholarship bill stated that the Kentucky Bourbon Festival would provide one yearly scholarship to a senior high school student of a parent employed by a Kentucky Bourbon Distilling Company.

The Kentucky Bourbon Festival has tripled this scholarship contribution since the program's inception. The addition to the scholarship program is made possible through the partnership between the Kentucky Bourbon Festival and both the Bluegrass Ice Company and the Cincinnati Dowel and Wood Products Company.
