On April 2, Amazon announced that Concord resident Jeremiah DeGreeff, a senior at Middlesex School, had been selected as one of the 100 recipients of their newly launched Future Engineers Scholarship.

Through this national program, Amazon has awarded DeGreeff a $40,000 scholarship, along with a guaranteed internship as he pursues an undergraduate degree in computer science.

As stated in Amazon's press release, recipients of the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship will receive $10,000 per year over four years to study computer science, starting this fall at the college of their choice. Scholarship winners will also receive a guaranteed, paid internship opportunity at Amazon after their freshman year of college.

During his four years at Middlesex, DeGreeff has been an outstanding student, particularly in math and computer science. He enrolled in AP Computer Science in the ninth grade and AP Calculus BC in the 10th grade, subsequently taking additional computer science courses in algorithms and data structures and in artificial intelligence. He has also undertaken additional independent study work in discrete mathematics, SQL and Ruby on Rails.

DeGreeff is also a leader of the Programming Club, sharing his skills with fellow students. This past summer, he interned with Middlesex's IT department to work on updating and enhancing custom code used with the school's course management software. His leadership at Middlesex extends beyond the classroom, too, as he serves as a senior proctor, community service officer, peer tutor and member of the varsity basketball and crew teams.
