FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. - With three $1,000 scholarships on the line, Cumming Chapter 1030 of the Vietnam Veterans of America is reminding graduating high school seniors that April 15 is the postmark deadline for this year's program.
This is the fourth annual scholarship competition and is open to all Forsyth County High School seniors in both public and private schools. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and the child, grandchild or great grandchild of a U.S. Military Veteran who served during any period.
The winning applicants will display an excellent academic record, involvement in school activities, community service and write a minimum 500 word original essay about "Why Freedom Isn't Free."
Chapter President Gary Goyette and Scholarship Chairman Marty Farrell encourage all eligible seniors to apply and emphasize that the April 15 postmark will be strictly enforced.
Scholarships will be awarded at the June monthly meeting of VVA Chapter 1030. Each scholarship is awarded in the name of a Vietnam combatant killed in action.
Scholarship applications should be available through school counselor's offices. Applications may also be obtained by contacting Marty Farrell at 770 500-7234.
