DENHAM SPRINGS - Updates on the search for a new school superintendent and progress on a community college campus are on the agenda for the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce's Education in Livingston Parish Lunch on Wednesday, April 10.
The Chamber will recognize the 13 recipients of its scholarships from Albany, Denham Springs, French Settlement, Holden, Maurepas, Springfield, and Walker High schools.
A 2012 recipient of one of the scholarships also will address the audience at Forrest Grove Plantation.
The event begins at noon.
School Board President Buddy Mincey Jr. will provide an update on the search to replace retiring Superintendent Rick Wentzel.
The deadline to apply for the post was Friday, March 29. The Central Office is waiting for the delivery of the mail on Monday, April 1, to see if they are any more applicants.
The School Board will learn at its meeting on Thursday, April 4, who has applied.
The acting chancellor of Northshore Technical Community College (NTCC), Dr. Daniel Roberts, will provide a progress report on the campus under construction in Walker.
He will talk about what courses will be offered. The campus is scheduled to open in August.
Roberts has been acting chancellor since September, having spent time as an adjunct faculty member and provost and vice chancellor of academic affairs at NTCC.
He also worked as a budget analyst for LSU and transfer recruiter and admissions counselor at SLU.
Roberts earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southeastern Louisiana University and doctorate from LSU.
Also scheduled to speak is a Chamber scholarship recipient and entrepreneur, Daniel Wendt, chief financial officer and director of marketing for Tonal Innovation.
The 2012 graduate of Denham Springs High earned his undergraduate degree in finance from LSU in 2016, followed by a master's degree in 2018.
He was the LSU Tiger Band drum major from 2015-17, where he was inspired to invent and launch, along with his best friend from the band, a new way to band members to carry and utilize music sheets.
The invention is being used by more than 50 universities and high schools nationwide.
