Applications are being accepted now for the Liam Hale Adventure Scholarship, which offers unlimited skiing and riding, golf, mountain biking, health and recreation center access, zipline and bungee trampoline at Sugarbush Resort.
The scholarship is valued at $3,650.
When he was a student at Harwood Union High School, Liam Hale loved Sugarbush, where he began skiing at age 4. At 10, he went to mountain bike camp. In family vacations on Cape Cod, instead of building sand castles, Liam built topographical sculptures of ski slopes in the sand.
Liam's exposure to so many outdoor sports at Sugarbush made him a confident, adventurous and outgoing young man. His work experience at the mountain taught him responsibility and was a source of pride.
The Liam Kenneth Hale Adventure Scholarship is intended to give a Harwood student the opportunity to learn the skills, virtues, and passion Liam gained during the many joyous days he spent at Sugarbush. Each year, students who will be completing their 10th-grade year will be eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Liam died in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 89.
The Liam Kenneth Hale Adventure Scholarship application and criteria are available at the Harwood guidance office. Applications and essays are due on Wednesday, April 10. Scholarship information: Sally McCarthy in the school counseling office; email smccarthy@wwsu.org or call 802-583-8175.
