Eagan, MN - Established in 2012, Eagan's July 4th Funfest Ambassador Scholarship Program has been a key initiative to help develop young leaders through service opportunities and community connections
over the years. Local youth and young adults have participated in this successful program for many
reasons including academic scholarships, becoming a community leader and of course, fun, adventure
and personal growth.
In the 2019-2020 season, candidates can expect to see a new format including two categories of
participation - Juniors and Ambassadors. Juniors will be comprised of local boys and girls ages 10 to 13 who are excited to build leadership skills, receive mentorship and bring attention to local causes. Juniors will have the opportunity to participate in various parades, volunteer at local events and will be eligible for a $500 scholarship.
The Ambassador category is open to boys and girls ages 14 to 18 with a willingness to build leadership and public speaking skills, become a mentor and add a great item to their resume for future college
applications. Ambassadors will participate in community festivals, bring attention to local causes, receive an opportunity to mentor the local youth and be eligible for a $2,000 scholarship.
"I've seen several Ambassadors grow in self-confidence in our program and have gone on to excel in public speaking and leadership roles in their schools and careers," said Marie Olson, Program Director. "Now, with this increased scholarship, we can better support their future education."
The candidate process commences in May and spans over six weeks with activities including a family potluck gathering, neighborhood community event and much more. Ambassadors will be announced at Eagan's July 4th Funfest Coronation in July. Local students in Eagan, Apple Valley, Burnsville and Rosemount are encouraged to apply. Eagan's July 4th Funfest has been occurring annually for over 50 years. Beginning as a small group of children riding around town on decorated bicycles, the event has grown into a two-day event with live bands, rides, lots of food, a parade and a fireworks display that attracts more than 100,000 people.
